About Lotus Wight
Lotus Wight creates “wildly original music played in the key of blues, ragtime, and folk.” Drawn early to the sounds of Tin Pan Alley, ragtime jazz, and Southern fiddle tunes, he developed a lifelong love for American vernacular music. As a young adult, he spent eight years touring the U.S. with an itinerant square-dance band, deepening his study of fiddle, banjo, and traditional song.
Known on and off stage as Sam Allison, Wight is a performer, producer, songwriter, festival host, and multi-instrumentalist whose mastery of banjo, upright bass, guitar, jaw harp, and bass harmonica has made him a sought-after collaborator. His work has earned JUNO, Dora Mavor-Moore, and Canadian Folk Music Award nominations.
A founding member of the acclaimed old-time trio Sheesham, Lotus & Son, Wight is now focused on his solo project Original Works for Voice and Banjo, marking his evolution from revivalist to distinctive contemporary songwriter.
